Dr. Arun Shourie

A member of India’s Parliament, Dr. Arun Shourie is the former Minister of Disinvestment, Communications and Information Technology.   For his pioneering work in these fields, Dr. Shourie was acclaimed as a “Star of Asia” by Business Week in 2002.

He has published 19 books on such varied topics as constitutional law; modern Indian history; religious fundamentalism; and public life in India. His latest book deals with national security.

Dr. Shourie has received over a score of international and national awards. He was executive editor and later editor of The Indian Express, and is widely regarded as the initiator of investigative journalism in India. The International Press Institute, Vienna, acclaimed him as one of 50 “World Press Freedom Heroes” whose work has sustained freedom of the press in the last half-century. In 2002, he was acclaimed as “The Business Leader of the Year” by The Economic Times jury for his pioneering and dogged work on privatization.
